During a search for suitable material for his own outdoor space, in which he wanted the look of wood but not its drawbacks, Patrick Smidt stumbled upon Millboard. He talked to the manufacturer, purchased the material himself, saw an opportunity for the Dutch market and in 2016 started the company AlterWood.

As an authorized distributor in the Netherlands, AlterWood offers both residential and commercial customers the complete range of Millboard. From a wide choice of planks in various collections and with various colors, to specific finishing materials for an optimal end result. AlterWood provides guidance and care, from customized advice and solution thinking, to realization and beyond.

AlterWood’s Millboard planks have the look and feel of real wood, but thanks to its unique properties, the planks do not experience weathering and – unlike real wood – will not warp, discolor, mold and rot. This makes the planks the perfect alternative to wood in various outdoor applications such as exterior flooring and facades: the initial design remains very beautiful for many years. Millboard boards have a long lifespan, are easy to assemble, are produced sustainably.
