Mansion PJ31
Renovation of a townhouse in Rotterdam’s Kralingen district
Commissioned by a Rotterdam family, we designed this renovation of a classic mansion in Kralingen. Although previous residents had visibly cared for the home with love, it was time for a major renovation, but with respect for the structure of the house and the details present.
The presence of a semi-sunken basement, the leap in the center load-bearing wall characteristic of the neighborhood and the unusual arch in the dining room simultaneously provided both the challenge and also the main starting points for the proposed interventions in the house.
we drew a new layout for all floors, designed all the new custom furniture and came up with a fine lighting plan that included a mix of new fixtures and familiar classics.
A recurring accent in the home are the slender oak elements: from the glass door in the living room, the lining of the TV cabinet and niche cabinet in the bedroom to the vanity in the bathroom.
A special accent in the renovation are the bathrooms and toilets; each with its own color palette, choice of tiles and plumbing fixtures. From the deep green tone with marble in the first floor toilet to a bold white/blue combination in the children’s bathroom.
Implementation was coordinated by the clients with their own permanent team of contractors and suppliers.
