Renovation of an interwar house with steellook windows

This house dates from 1931, and yet for that time the architecture was incredibly innovative, like that flat roof and those arches. The renovation required a lot of time, but that the front would require so much effort was something the builder had not anticipated. All the concrete went out. The iron that was rusted was removed. They had the tiles in the front refired by someone who is doctored in tile mosaic.

The result is quite stunning and somewhat reminiscent of Villa Cavrois, a well-known modernist gem recently restored. For the facade, they took inspiration from old photographs. Based on those images, they completely recreated the original subdivision. The continuity of horizontal lines had disappeared from the facade over the years. Steellook windows fit well with those black lines and was also a good choice toward maintenance.
