Riverside Villa

The villa dates from 1900 and has received many different modifications and additions over time, but not much has happened since the 1970s. Based on the original drawings, a new design was created in which original features were reinforced. A spacious conservatory was built to the original house with long lines and large windows that reinforced its connection to the waterfront garden. On the upper level, the villa was broken up at the back to create a loft-like bedroom including roof terrace. The newly created spaces in the villa have not been made too slick to make it seem like it was created by accident. For example, several alcoves were created as in the kitchen so that the countertop falls deeper into the wall. These surprise elements are important to keep it from feeling like a new construction house. Material choices also played an important role, a lot of wood with woven webbing but also steel and raw concrete were used in the design. This gives the villa a bohemian feel without forgetting that it is a Dutch river house.
